Day 2

Jessica here! We made it!! After a train ride, a bus ride, and a 10 hour flight, we touched down in Copenhagen at approximately 4:00am California time. The customs line was lengthy, but we made it onto our train to the city shortly after. Unlike our previous trips, we didn't really have much planned for what to do in Copenhagen. We have general ideas of places we want to visit, but nothing written down or concrete. So we started walking towards the city center from the train station at around 3:30 in hopes of finding some interesting things to see - maybe a tower to climb? Our first stop was the Town Hall building. It is known for its tower and beautiful views of the city. Unfortunately, it was closed. However, we may try to visit again when it is open on Saturday. Our journey took us closer to the middle of the city where we encountered our first canal an a nice place to take some pictures. We continued to follow the canal, past the Christiansborg Palace, across a bridge and into Christianshavn - a neighborhood known for its free spirit living, and laid back mentality. Adam started to notice that everyone in this neighborhood was hanging out by the canals, enjoying the views with a beer in hand. He gave me a look that I know very well that indicated he would like to partake in this free spirit living, so we made a pit stop at 7-11 (yes they have those here! All over the place!). Then we found a nice bench along the canal and did as the locals were doing; drank and enjoyed the scenery. The weather was exceptionally good today, sunny with a high of a 70, so everyone was out on their boats, cruising up and down the canals, or sunning on the sides. It was our favorite part of the day! After a few more minutes of relaxing, we started making our way towards a nearby church. This church had a very nice looking tower, just begging to be climbed. Unfortunately again, we were unable because of the long line and the lack of patience we had. Perhaps on Saturday as well? A few more minutes of walking had us crossing the bridge back into the main part of the city and on to Nyhavn. This neighborhood is centered around the 17th century Nyhavn Canal. It was originally a place where sailors and fishermen would handle cargo and their daily catch. Today it is a lively area of restaurants, tourists, and street performers. The famed Hans Christian Anderson lived in this area for nearly 20 years. Perhaps this was the inspiration for the Little Mermaid. By this point we were STARVING! (the subway sandwich from the plane had lost its effect hours ago. We were also tired from exploring, so we went to the first decent looking restaurant that we cam across. It was a small Italian place. Adam got a pastrami sandwich, while I had spaghetti bolognese. I'm not sure if it was the food or how hungry we were, but everything was delicious!! Rather than walk all of the way back to the train station, we decided to try our hand at public transportation. 3 different subway lines later, we had made it just outside the city to the Airbnb that we were staying at. It was almost 8pm at the point, but it was still very light outside because the sun doesn't set until 10PM this time of year. After checking in, we walked down the street to the local grocery store to pick up some wine and food for breakfast the next day, but the grocery store had just closed.  We were able to manage by getting a few things at the gas station convenience store down the street. It had been a great day, but we were extremely tired and had no trouble falling straight to sleep.  Pictures below!

Day 18...We're home!

Well after 22 hours of traveling, we made it! It only took 2 planes (one with a very loud and curious toddler sitting 1 row away), a bus and...
