Day 10

Jessica today :) We had our first island day today! This was an early wake up. We wanted to get out ahead of the crowds and make sure that we had plenty of time to see the island of Brac, so we had a 5am wakeup call for our 6:15am ferry. Thankfully we had packed our things the night before, so we had no problems getting out on time. We had never taken a car ferry, so we wanted to make sure that we gave ourselves some extra time just in case. The whole process was actually pretty easy. You park your car in line, buy your tickets, and then drive onto the boat when it opens. They direct you the whole way. The ferry to Supetar, Brac was relatively quick (just 50 minutes) and before we knew it, we were driving onto dry land and off into the city. We found some free parking in a nearby neighborhood, then took a stroll through the city. Near the church, we came across the school. I guess some things are cross cultural. (They also all had those extremely annoying fidget spinners…) I have to admit, there isn’t a whole lot going on at 7am, but I did see some kids doing their homework. Right next to the school was the local church. We snapped some pics at the church and then decided we needed some coffee. There were a bunch of little cafes, so we plopped down at one and ordered 2 large coffees. I guess the definition of large is different here, because out came two cups the size of a double shot glass. After 3 or 4 sips, we were finished. On our way back to the car we stopped at a bakery for a small snack. The lady said it was a cheesy pastry, but we were sadly disappointed because it didn’t have any flavor at all. Oh well, we would made up for it at lunch. Our next stop was Zlatni Rat in the city of Bol. Zlatni Rat is described as a sandbar that juts way out into the water. It is supposed to be one of the nicest beaches in the country. It is supposedly always packed with people, so we wanted to get there early. The drive from Stari Grad took about 30 minutes. Once we had parked, we walked down to the beach only to discover that “sand” was a loose term. It was definitely covered in rocks. But it didn’t matter. The water was so clear and the temperature was perfect. We spent a good hour just enjoying the scenery, and watching all of the chartered yachts drop off their passengers on the beach. It was getting close to lunch time, so we left Zlatni Rat and started heading towards our next destination, the small town of Pucisca. The town is located right on the coast. We had excellent views of the city overlooking the harbor. Our stomachs were grumbling while we were walking around so we started looking for a good place to relax and eat. On our walk into the city we saw signs for a Konobo (tavern). We located it after a few minutes of looking. It appeared to be a small family run place with a huge bbq pit. They sat us on the terrace and even turned on some Croatian tunes. Adam ended up ordering the veal while I got the meat dumplings. They had fries as well and a delicious red pepper dipping sauce. Both dishes were some of the best we’ve had so far! We left the restaurant thoroughly stuffed an onto the next adventure. After a good 20 minutes driving, we arrived at a secluded beach close to our starting point, Supetar. There was one other couple there, but there was plenty of room for both of us. We laid out our towels, put on our water shoes, and went for a dip. The water was pleasantly warm. We were so comfortable that Adam didn’t even notice the two fish that were nipping at his ankles. Eventually it was just us on the beach and it felt a little bit like paradise. It was very peaceful and exactly what we needed to end our first island day. We hopped back into the car to make the short drive back to the ferry. The process was just as smooth going back. Because it was so warm out, we decided to sit on the top deck and got some great pictures as we approached Split. Once we docked, it was back into the car and back to our apartment. We took a little break before deciding on dinner plans. Rather than walk down into the city (and back up again), we opted for a trip to the nearby grocery store. On the menu tonight, homecooked pasta, sausage and zucchini. We even topped it with some of the Pag cheese we had picked up in the market yesterday. It was a perfect end to our last day in Split. We have another early wake up call tomorrow (4am!) for our ferry to Hvar.

Day 18...We're home!

Well after 22 hours of traveling, we made it! It only took 2 planes (one with a very loud and curious toddler sitting 1 row away), a bus and...
